banner Baptism is the start of the Christian journey. Of itself it does not make you a Christian, but it    opens the door to the life God wants us to lead.

Baptism does this in a number of ways :-

·         It acknowledges God’s grace freely given to your child, an individual within his/her family.

·         It allows us to give thanks to God for the birth of your child.

·         It allows you, and the Godparents, to declare publicly that you are going to support your child on his/her Christian journey.

·         It starts your child on the way to Confirmation, acknowledging the declarations for themselves, receiving Holy Communion and thereby becoming a committed Christian.

Can our child be baptised?

Baptism is free and would normally take place in your local parish Church.  If you are unsure if you live in the Parish, you can view the list by clicking 'Roads in the Parish'.

If you live outside the parish, but have strong links with St Cuthbert’s, then it is possible to arrange Baptism if you meet one or more of the following qualifications:

  • ·         You were baptised at St Cuthbert’s.
  • ·         You were married at St Cuthbert’s.
  • ·         You worship at St Cuthbert’s on a regular basis.

Please feel free to contact the Rector or church office if you need any additional information concerning baptism for your child.

At St. Cuthbert’s, baptism is on the first Sunday of each month.

I wasn’t baptised as a child, it is possible to be baptised as an adult?

YES, it is possible and at St Cuthbert’s we would normally arrange for this to take place at a special evening service. As an adult you would have a sponsor to stand alongside you rather than Godparents speaking for you. Also adult Baptism would normally be followed by Confirmation (see more information about Confirmation).

fontIf you wish to book your child’s Baptism, please contact the Rector who will be pleased to discuss the occasion with you.
